Clove buds are the sun-ripe flower buds of a short, slender evergreen tree that bears cloves for at least a century.  One of the most potent antiseptic, Europeans doctors once breathed through clove-filled leather beaks to ward off the plague.  Modern dental preparations contain clove essential oil, or its main constituent, eugenol, to numb toothache and teething pain and to stop infection.

Uses:

Arthritis, rheumatism, sprains, bruising, varicose veins, Colic, dyspepsia, nausea, diarrhea, gastroenteritis, sluggish liver, flatulence, intestinal parasites, worms and their eggs. Cystitis, Arthritis, Asthma, bronchitis, colds, flu, sinusitis, pleurisy, toothache

 Benzoin, eucalyptus, cinnamon, black pepper, ginger, lemon, gerandium, lavender, grapefruit,  ylang ylang, sandalwood, clary dage and jasmine.

Cautions: Do not use when pregnant.  All clove oil can cause skin and mucous membrane irritation; clove bud may cause dermatitis.  Use in moderation only, in low dilution (less than 1 per cent.) because it is one of the hot, powerful spice oils.
